Bread, rice, pasta and cereals are good sources of Carbohydrate which gives you energy. Around a third of everything you eat should be carbohydrates.

Dairy Products should take up around one sixth of everything you eat. They provide protein, minerals and vitamins.

Fats and sugars are high in fat and don't provide much in the way of nutritional benefit. They should be eaten in moderation, and should not come to any more than a twelfth of your diet.

Meat and fish should take up around a sixth of what you eat in a day - that's around half the amount of carbohydrates. Meat is the main source of protein.

Fruit and vegetables should take up around a third of what you eat every day. They provide fibre to help you digest your food, proteins to help your body grow and repair, and minerals and vitamins...
