MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY, BUT...
All of us know and understand that working with horses requires us to work even if it’s Christmas, the New Year or just a Sunday, though didn’t some trainers really take the p..s out of the Christmas and New Year falling on a weekend.
PAY INCREASE LIMITED DUE TO ECONOMY
In an innovative and sometimes misunderstood second part of the 2011 pay claim, NASS called for agreement from the National Trainers Federation (NTF) representing Trainers to bring Stable Staff earnings into line with the comparable national average earnings by the end of pay negotiations in 2013.
NASS PUTS IN UNUSUAL PAY CLAIM
The Pay Claim is unusual in that it addresses the issues of earnings as well as the National Minimum Rates (NMR) and proposes a new level of grades which would bring any Stable Staff on the NMR Grade A up to a level of earnings comparable to the national earnings average in Britain by October 2013.
NASS HAS A BIGGER EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
The second NASS Executive Council has just been declared elected to serve a 2 year term of office from Monday 4 April 2011 to 31 Ma rch 2013.
The new NASS Executive Council will comprise 9 Members plus the NASS President, who chairs it. Jim Cornelius, NASS Chief Executive, said when announcing the result “This is a growth in size and stature. The 9 are all elected unopposed in their various categories which is understandable as it is difficult to get Stable Staff to give up the little time they have to represent their work colleagues. However, this new Executive Council has a number of those who were members of the first NASS Executive Council and therefore there is continuity of experience.
GEORGE RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT
UNOPPOSED GEORGE MCGRATH RECENTLY RECEIVED AN OVERWHELMING VOTE OF CONFIDENCE FROM YOU BY BEING RE-ELECTED NASS PRESIDENT WITHOUT ANYONE ELSE STANDING AGAINST HIM.
Jim Cornelius, Chief Executive, said, when announcing the conclusion of the election, “this is good for NASS. George has held the post for the past two years from when our fi rst Annual General Meeting of Members decided to have a President nominated and voted by all the Association’s members.
2010 PAY DEAL - A STEP FORWARD
NASS and the National Trainers Federation commenced negotiotions at the end of March 2010 in line with the agreement made in the October 2009 pay negotiations which led to a wholesale pay review. The NFT had to agree to re-open pay negotiations 6 months from then due to the failure to agree a pay increase in October 2009.
NASS 2nd AGM CONTINUES THE ADVANCE
Jim Cornelius, NASS Chief Executive, hailed it as a “further advance in the development of NASS and its progress on behalf of Stable Staff. The 12 delegates present was a 50% increase on those attending last year and our 20 guests were from many areas of racing and the Trade Union Movement. The business dealt with was a step forward in membership participation.”
